The Iranian Soumak carpet can be vacuumed regularly, if something spills on it, it is advisable to soak it up immediately with a dry cloth and remove it with slightly shampooed (ph neutral) water. Every six months you should brush it with slightly vinegared water (use 20% vinegar) , using a soft cloth brush and ensuring that it dries quickly. The vinegar will brighten colours and kill moths and other unwanted creatures. Protect your carpet from strong sunlight and rotate it from time to time to ensure that it receives an even load during use.
