This beautiful Murano glass paperweight made in millefiori technique is reminiscent of an iconic piece of traditional Italian glass art. The millefiori (Italian for a thousand flowers) is a fascinating and time-consuming glassmaking technique that originated on the island of Murano in Venice. The technique involves fusing different coloured glass sticks together, cutting them into small pieces and reassembling them to create intricate patterns. The final shape is fused into a homogeneous block of glass, which is polished to perfection, resulting in a shimmering, detailed and beautiful piece of ornamentation.
The colours of the object are extremely rich: red, blue, green, yellow and white are harmoniously blended, while the surface is decorated with small flower-like motifs. These floral patterns are the hallmark of Millefiori glassmaking and are never repeated exactly on a unique, handmade piece.
This piece is perfect as a paperweight on a desk, but can also be used on its own as an elegant ornament in a living room, study or even in a display cabinet.
